Overview

Dodder, also known as Cuscuta, is a genus of parasitic plants that belong to the Convolvulaceae family. Dodder plants lack chlorophyll and therefore cannot photosynthesize, so they rely entirely on other host plants for nutrients. Dodder seeds are tiny and typically brown or black in color. They are produced within small, round capsules that develop on the dodder plant. Each seed is equipped with specialized structures called haustoria, which allow the seedling to penetrate the host plant and extract nutrients.In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and other traditional systems, dodder seeds have been used for their purported medicinal properties.
