Catechu, also known as cutch or acacia catechu, is an extract derived from the heartwood of various species of acacia trees, particularly Acacia catechu, a small, thorny tree native to Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The extract is obtained by boiling and evaporating the wood, resulting in a dark brown, resinous substance.Catechu has been used for centuries in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, for its astringent, anti-inflammatory, and medicinal properties. It contains compounds such as catechin, catechuic acid, and flavonoids, which are believed to contribute to its therapeutic effects.In traditional medicine, catechu has been used to treat various conditions, including diarrhea, dysentery, sore throat, cough, dental issues, and skin ailments.
