Overview
Anogeissus latifolia, commonly known as the Axlewood tree, is a species of tree native to South Asia, particularly found in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It belongs to the Combretaceae family. The Axlewood tree is a medium to large-sized deciduous tree with a straight trunk and a spreading crown. It typically grows to a height of 20 to 30 meters (65 to 100 feet). The bark is dark brown to grayish-black, deeply fissured, and rough in texture.The leaves of Anogeissus latifolia are simple, alternate, and elliptic to obovate in shape. They are glossy green above and pale below, with entire or slightly toothed margins. The leaves are clustered at the ends of branches and turn red before falling in the winter.
