Overview

Lavender is an herb native to the Mediterranean region. It is commonly used to flavor foods and beverages and as a fragrance in soap and other cosmetic products. Lavender is also one of the most widely grown essential oil crops in the world. This product, which is also referred to as lavender aromatherapy oil, is typically made by distilling the herb’s dried flowers with steam. applied to the skin, and breathed in through aromatherapy.

Benefits

Healing skin is probably the biggest benefit of lavender essential oil. Lavender is a potent antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory so it can be used to treat a number of skin problems like eczema, psoriasis and other allergies. It’s also a highly effective and proven treatment when you have an acne flare-up and to help keep blemishes at bay.
One of the essential oils lavender benefits is anti-aging. Due to its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender not only nourishes the skin back to a healthy glow, but also helps prevent wrinkles and lightens the appearance of age spots and dark marks. Antioxidants fight off the free radicals that bombard your skin on a daily basis and speed up the aging process.
Because it’s an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, lavender oil helps speed up the healing of small burns, cuts, scrapes and wounds. Its soothing compounds also provide welcome relief from sunburn.
Lavender not only helps calm inflamed and irritating bites and stings but also acts as an effective insect repellant. A lavender sachet in your closet is well known to ward off moths, and a lavender spray also successfully repels mosquitoes, flies, ants, fleas and bed bugs.
As an antimicrobial, lavender not only helps eliminate bacteria but also acts against certain types of fungi. It’s been found to be a highly potent remedy for athlete’s foot and ringworm. It can also help reduce inflammation and clear up viral infections such as cold sores and warts.
Lavender essential oil can promote wound healing. It speeds up the rate of healing, increases the expression of collagen — which keeps your skin elastic and your joints healthy — and enhances the activity of proteins involved in rebuilding tissue.
Painful inflammation can be treated with lavender oil. The oil’s pain-relieving and numbing effects help soothe the inflammation, while the beta-caryophyllene in the oil also acts as a natural anti-inflammatory.
Lavender oil does double duty for insect bites. It acts as an insect repellent, and it can relieve itching after a bite occurs. Many commercial mosquito repellents contain lavender oil.

Lavender has a well-known reputation to promote a good night of sleep. Its relaxing properties are perfect for helping to reduce feelings of stress after a long day and help you drift into dreamland.
Headaches are a great way to ruin, well, everything. No matter what you’re up to, a throbbing head makes every task a little more unpleasant. Thankfully, with its calming and sedative effects, Lavender can provide wonderful relief if you are experiencing head and neck tension.
To decrease the pain, swelling, redness, and other minor burn symptoms, Lavender is the perfect oil to reach for. Its cooling relief will be immediate and will help support the healing process.
Lavender is known to reduce inflammation, strengthen your body against allergens, and reduce painful symptoms from allergies, like swelling or pressure. Lavender contains linalool, which can have anti-inflammatory actions that may help relieve tissue congestion.

How To Use

Calming: Rub 2 or 3 drops of lavender oil in your cupped palms, then use deep inhalations to draw the scent all the way into your amygdala gland, the emotional warehouse in your brain, to calm the mind. Then, rub your feet, temples, wrists (or anywhere) for an immediate calming effect on the whole body. Great for use in crowded areas like planes or subways to carve out your own personal oasis.
Sleep aid: Again, use the cupping and inhalation method. Then, rub a drop of lavender oil on your palms and smooth on your pillow to help you sleep.
Bee sting / Insect bite: Put a drop of lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and reduce swelling.
Minor burn: Put 2 or 3 drops of lavender oil on a minor burn to decrease pain. I recently did this after I spilled scorching hot tea on my hand and luckily had my lavender with me. I had no redness, swelling or pain and no sign of a burn. Lavender worked wonders!
Cuts: Drop lavender oil on a cut to stop bleeding, clean wound, and kill bacteria, until you can get it treated with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol.
Nausea or motion sickness: Alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness by placing a drop of lavender oil on the end of your tongue, behind the ears or around the navel.
Nosebleed: Stop a nosebleed by putting a drop of lavender oil on a tissue and wrap it around a small chip of ice. Push the tissue-covered ice chip up under the middle of the top lip to the base of the nose and hold as long as comfortable or until the bleeding stops (be careful not to freeze the lip or gum).
Dry or chapped skin: Rub lavender oil on dry or chapped skin for quick relief.
Chapped or sunburned lips: Rub a drop of lavender oil on chapped or sunburned lips to help relieve the symptoms.
Dandruff: Mix 15 drops of lavender oil with a few tablespoons of olive oil. Wet your hair with warm water and towel dry, then massage the oil into your scalp. Let the lavender work its magic for about an hour, covering your hair with a shower cap if you want. Wash the oil out of your hair. Repeat process every few days or as needed.
Cold sores: Put a drop of lavender oil on a cold sore to encourage healing.
